Frequently Asked Questions about TEC
We hope that most of the questions you may have can be answered below. If not, please go to our Contact Us page to email us. We'll do our best to get back to you promptly.
How long is a TEC weekend and what does it cost?
A TEC weekend is three days (9 a.m. Saturday morning—late Monday afternoon, 4:30-5 p.m.). The cost is $50; however, scholarships are available if a young adult cannot afford the weekend. Contact us if you have questions.
Is this a co-ed experience?
No. Each weekend is gender-specific, so the young adults can feel at ease sharing their high school and early college challenges. Though all young adults share common experiences, there are gender-specific differences. A co-ed working team supports the TEC weekend. Leadership and security monitor their activities throughout the weekend.
As a parent, how can I learn more about the weekend my child will attend?
After your teen has committed to attending a particular weekend, an informational "Parent's/Guardian Letter" will be mailed to your home. If you have any questions or concerns before receiving this letter, please contact us through the Contact Us page.
How do I sign up to serve on a TEC Team?
Those involved with team selection begin the process of prayerful discernment. We believe God calls those He intends to serve on the team. Please complete an application here.
How can I help to support the TEC program?
We are pleased that through the donations of several individuals, cost containment efforts of our Council members throughout the years, and an occasional fund-raising event, we have consistently kept the cost of a TEC weekend at a very affordable level (currently $50). TEC has no paid staff - we are run 100% by volunteers. However, there are costs that the registration fee alone will not always cover. These include our cost of food and supplies for the weekend. We also have a policy that no one will be turned away from a TEC weekend because of an inability to pay. The Gospel is too important to keep from our teenagers. Other ways to help include prayer, baking cookies, volunteering in the kitchen, serving on teams, etc. Go here to learn more.
What does my child need to bring for the weekend?
Please have them bring comfortable clothing, bedding, toiletries, medications, a water bottle, and a nice outfit for Mass on Sunday. We ask that ladies not wear short skirts, as they may end up on the floor. Also, please do not bring electronics such as watches, cell phones, tablets, etc. If you do, they will be locked up for safekeeping for the weekend.
Will my child miss a day of school?
Unless the weekend falls on a three-day weekend during which there is no school, your child will miss school on Monday, and you must notify the school.
