Frequently Asked Questions About TEC
Hopefully, most of the questions you might have can be answered below. If not, please go to our Contact page and send off your question. We'll do our best to get back with you quickly.
-- As a parent, how can I find out more about theweekend my child will be attending?
After your teen has committed to attending a particular weekend, an informational "Parent's/Guardian Letter" will be mailed to your home. If you have any questions or concerns prior to receiving this letter, you may contact Lay Director, Kim Santman at: laydirector or our Executive Secretary, Laura Knapp at 815-878-6217 or at
[email protected]
-- How do I sign up for serving on a TEC team?
Those involved with the selection of people that will serve on these teams go into the process first and foremost under the cover of prayer. It is our belief and hope that God does call those that He intends to serve on team by the vehicle of prayer. A few of the ways that these prayers are manifested include; preference of the Leader, trying to move people up through the qualifications required to someday lead a weekend, and, most importantly, by reviewing the applications for team that the team selection committee have sent to them. If you have a desire to give back what you've been given on your first TEC weekend, send in those applications!!
-- How can I help to support the TEC program?
We are pleased that through the donations of several individuals, cost containment efforts of our Council members throughout the years, and an occasional fund-raising event we have been able to consistently keep the cost of a TEC weekend at a very affordable level (currently $50). TEC has no paid staff - we are run 100% by volunteers. However, there are costs that the registration fee alone will not always cover. These include our cost of food and supplies for the weekend. We also have as a policy that no one will be turned away from a TEC weekend because of an inability to pay. The Gospel is too important to keep from our teenagers.
What we are asking is that you might prayerfully consider partnering with us as we reach out and share Christ with the teens that He sends our way. You can do this in several ways. First and foremost, we ask that you would lift us up in prayer. All of our best ideas and intentions fall short of what we can do when we are empowered by God to do His will. Secondly, you can help in the kitchen by serving or donating food/cookies or volunteer to serve on a team. We always welcome new help! And finally, you can partner with us by supporting us financially. Contact kitchen at: kitchen
You will find no greater return on your investment than in helping one of our teenagers to encounter Christ. If this is an avenue that you would like to pursue, please contact our Treasurer at: treasurer God bless you and thank you for your generosity!
-- What do I need to bring to a TEC weekend?
You will need to bring comfortable clothing, bedding, and bathroom items. We ask that you bring a nice outfit for mass on Sunday. For you ladies, we ask that you not bring short skirts as you may end up seated on the floor.
If you are musically inclined, we encourage you to bring the instrument that you play. There will be opportunities to play your instrument, and you might also be asked to assist with the music on the weekend, if you feel comfortable with that.
If you, or someone in your house enjoys cooking, please feel free to bring a couple dozen cookies! They will not go to waste!
We ask that you leave all watches, cell phones, pagers, boom boxes, MP3 players, PDA's, and the like at home. You will find that there really isn't much time to use the aforementioned items, and we would like to avoid the worry of having those (often expensive) items turn up missing.
-- Will I miss a day of school?
Unless the weekend you plan on attending is scheduled on a three-day weekend (with Monday being the day off), you will miss a day of school. TEC weekends run from 9:00am on Saturday until 4:00pm on Monday.
We would ask that you contact the administrative office at you school to notify them of your absence.
